In a significant celebration at Historic Sotterley on June 6, 2024, Calvert County recognized its government employees who successfully completed the Leadership Southern Maryland’s (LSM) Executive Program for the class of 2024. This event marks a pivotal moment for these leaders who have dedicated nine months to enhancing their skills and knowledge to better serve the Southern Maryland community.
The LSM Executive Program, renowned for its comprehensive leadership and development curriculum, aims to connect, educate, and inspire a diverse group of community leaders. Participants from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties engage in an array of activities designed to foster collaboration and address regional needs effectively.

Throughout the course, the graduates participated in speaker presentations, site visits, and in-depth discussions on crucial topics such as education, public safety, defense, industry, healthcare, housing, human services, energy, environment, economic growth, workforce development, multiculturalism, and diversity. These experiences are crafted to prepare the leaders to tackle contemporary challenges and drive positive change in their communities.
The graduation ceremony featured a line-up of the program’s alumni, highlighting the diversity and dedication of the participants. Notably present were Chris Breedlove; Vice President, Commissioner Catherine Grasso; Sybol Anderson; Chris Sperling; Sheebah Smith; Lt. Robert Selkirk; Kathryn Poff; Karyn Molines; Eryn Lowe; Mary Beth Cook; President, Commissioner Earl F. “Buddy” Hance; Commissioners Mike Hart, Todd Ireland, and Mark Cox Sr.
This leadership initiative not only enhances the capabilities of the individuals involved but also significantly contributes to the broader socio-economic development of Southern Maryland.
