Calvert County’s Department of Planning & Zoning is calling on residents to provide their input on the second draft of the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map update. This step comes after the initial public comments were considered in revising the first draft. The planning department emphasizes the value of community feedback in shaping the ordinance to better reflect the needs and expectations of the residents.
The second draft is currently available for review on the county’s official website, and residents are encouraged to submit their comments by September 27, 2024. Public feedback is crucial in this phase and can be submitted either via email to ZOupdate@calvertcountymd.gov or by traditional mail addressed to the ZO Update team at 205 Main St., Prince Frederick, MD 20678.
Public hearings are scheduled to ensure further community engagement and discussion about the proposed changes. The Planning Commission will hold a hearing on November 20, 2024, followed by the Board of County Commissioners on December 10, 2024. These dates are tentative and subject to modification.
The updated zoning ordinance aims to regulate land use within the county, which significantly affects neighborhood development, public services, and the general well-being of the Calvert County populace. This regulation is in alignment with the mandates of the Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in 2019 and amended in 2022, to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the community.
