LEONARDTOWN, MD — The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) convened for their regular business meeting this Tuesday, addressing a wide range of topics from property leases to upcoming meeting schedules and community recognitions.
The session began with a routine invocation and the pledge of allegiance, followed by the unanimous approval of the consent agenda. The commissioners moved on to present several proclamations honoring September’s significance for various national observances, including National Recovery Month, National Suicide Prevention Month, Underground Railroad Month, and National Senior Center Month.
Key administrative actions were taken during the County Administrator’s segment of the meeting. Notably, the commissioners reviewed and approved the meeting schedule for the 2025 calendar year and set the budget calendar for the 2026 fiscal year. Other significant approvals included a lease addendum for the Hayden Farm property and federal grant awards related to the Older Americans Act and the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Updates were also provided on the progress of the Child Care Facility project, a significant development aimed at boosting local child care services.
The meeting concluded with Commissioner Time, where individual commissioners had the opportunity to address specific issues or concerns.
Subsequent to the meeting, the commissioners attended the annual State of the County luncheon. Hosted by the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce, the event served as a platform to launch the Fiscal Year 24 State of the County video and facilitated a Q&A session with community members.
Further details on the commissioners’ decisions and associated documents can be accessed via the SMCG website in BoardDocs. The public is invited to attend future meetings, which are also available for viewing on TV Channel 95 and online through the county’s YouTube channel.
The next CSMC business meeting is scheduled for September 17, 2024, at 9 a.m., to be held at the CSMC Meeting Room in Leonardtown.
