LEXINGTON PARK, MD — Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division executed a significant drug bust on Wednesday, October 16, in Lexington Park, recovering a substantial quantity of a suspected mixture of fentanyl and heroin.

Law enforcement served search and seizure warrants at a residence in the 22000 block of Rue Woods Drive following an ongoing investigation into suspected drug trafficking activities. The operation resulted in the discovery of approximately 685 grams of what is believed to be a fentanyl-heroin mixture, among other items linked to narcotics distribution.

The investigation focused on 31-year-old Daisaun Altay Eric Culpepper, who had been under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Detectives executed the warrants on Culpepper’s residence and person, which led to the recovery of several tied-off bags containing the suspected controlled dangerous substance (CDS). In addition to the drugs, authorities seized digital scales with CDS residue, CDS packaging materials, and over $6000 in cash believed to be related to the drug trade.

Culpepper was arrested on-site on an open Circuit Court warrant stemming from a previous probation violation linked to a prior charge of CDS distribution. Following the arrest, he was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he is currently being held.

He faces multiple charges related to the possession and intent to distribute narcotics, including:

  • CDS: Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics
  • CDS: Possession with Intent to Distribute a Dangerous Mixture Containing Heroin and Fentanyl
  • CDS: Possession of a Large Amount
  • CDS: Possession – Not Cannabis

Culpepper remains in custody at the detention center while awaiting a bond hearing.

The search and arrest mark a significant step in the Sheriff’s Office’s efforts to combat the distribution of deadly substances like fentanyl, which has been a growing concern across the nation due to its high potency and role in numerous overdose deaths.

Local authorities have been vigilant in their efforts to address the increasing presence of fentanyl in communities, with many drug busts in recent months leading to large seizures and arrests. The combination of heroin and fentanyl is particularly dangerous, as the potency of fentanyl, even in small amounts, can cause fatal overdoses.

This operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against the opioid epidemic, which continues to affect St. Mary’s County and beyond. The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, as community involvement is vital in helping authorities track down and stop drug trafficking operations.

A bond hearing for Culpepper is expected to take place soon, where the court will determine whether he will remain in custody pending trial.
