The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct two public comment hearings on a proposed rate increase affecting nine water utilities in Southern Maryland. The hearings, led by Public Utility Law Judge Christine L. Burke, will include one virtual and one in-person session.
The proposed settlement calls for a phased revenue increase totaling $425,000 over two years and a monthly surcharge of nearly $14. The surcharge aims to address compliance costs with updated federal lead and copper regulations.
Virtual and In-Person Hearing Details
The virtual hearing will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 6 p.m. Participants interested in attending must email psc.pulj@gmail.com by noon on Monday, November 25 to receive a link for the online platform. A recording will be posted on the PSC Public Utility Law Judge Division’s YouTube channel: MD PSC PULJs.
The in-person hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center, located at 90 Post Office Road, Waldorf. These hearings were rescheduled from earlier dates due to a reporting error in the revenue requirement.
