PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Jan. 11, 2025) – Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller brought the administration’s cabinet to Calvert County on Friday as part of their statewide cabinet meeting road tour. The event, held at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, included key discussions with local officials and the launch of a major initiative aimed at improving government efficiency.

During the visit, Gov. Moore signed an Executive Order establishing the Government Modernization Initiative, a plan to address inefficiencies in state operations while reducing taxpayer costs. The initiative aims to save the state $50 million in its first year through streamlined processes and cost-saving measures.

“By modernizing operations and working with local governments like Calvert County, we can deliver better services for Marylanders while reducing the budget deficit,” said Gov. Moore.

The governor met with the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and county staff to discuss the region’s growth and challenges. Local leaders highlighted Calvert County’s high quality of life and strategic efforts to support economic development.

“We are deeply appreciative of Gov. Moore’s visit to Calvert County,” said BOCC President Earl F. “Buddy” Hance. “This provided an opportunity for the governor and his staff to gain a better understanding of our rural county, and we look forward to future collaborations that support the well-being of our residents.”

Focus Areas of the Visit

The governor and his cabinet explored several key topics during their visit, including clean energy, community services, public safety, and infrastructure improvements. Their itinerary included stops at:

  • Constellation Energy’s Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center to highlight advancements in clean energy.
  • Armory Square Pavilion and the Community Resource Hub to discuss local community services.
  • The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office District 2 Facility to examine public safety efforts.

The tour reinforced the Moore administration’s commitment to collaborating with local governments to drive innovation, improve state services, and ensure Maryland communities can thrive.
