LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) opened their latest business meeting with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance before approving the consent agenda.

The commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing National Burn Awareness Week, highlighting the importance of fire and burn prevention efforts within the community. They then convened as the Board of Health to hear a presentation from the St. Mary’s County Health Department regarding proposed updates to the Environmental Health fee schedule. The presentation focused on necessary adjustments to maintain public health services and regulatory compliance.

For their primary agenda items, the commissioners approved requests for public hearings on proposed increases to the Rescue Tax for the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad.

During County Administrator Time, the commissioners reviewed future CSMC meeting agendas and denied a proposed agreement to lease First Colony Residential Pod #3, located off FDR Boulevard in California, to the Housing Authority of St. Mary’s County. They approved the St. Mary’s County Transit (STS) Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan and the FEMA Acknowledgement of Condition form on behalf of the Department of Emergency Services.

The commissioners then received a legislative update from the Office of the County Attorney before concluding the meeting with Commissioner Time.

The next business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the CSMC Meeting Room on the first floor of the Chesapeake Building, located at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown.
