Music from Poplar Hill’s 2024-2025 season continues with an evening of classical and Broadway music featuring acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Kathryn Krasovec. The concert takes place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Valley Lee, Maryland.
The program, titled “The Storytellers,” will explore myths, folklore, and timeless tales set to music. Krasovec will perform works by Manuel de Falla, Claude Debussy, William Bolcom, Missy Mazzoli, and Eric Whitacre, as well as selections from Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd.” Joining her onstage will be baritone Thomas Meglioranza, who will also perform settings by Margaret Bonds of Langston Hughes’ poetry.

Krasovec, a Juilliard graduate and winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, has performed at The Metropolitan Opera, Spoleto Festival USA, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, the National Theater of Prague, and Theater Bremen in Germany. Her career has spanned Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
Meglioranza is also an accomplished performer, having won the Walter W. Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, and Franz Schubert/Music of Modernity competitions. He has appeared at the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center and performed with major orchestras, including the National Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Boston Symphony.
As part of its mission to bring music to the community, Music from Poplar Hill will host two student outreach programs on Thursday, February 27. Krasovec will visit Chesapeake Public Charter School, while students from Bay Montessori will attend a special presentation at St. George’s Episcopal Church. These educational events are provided at no cost to students.
Music from Poplar Hill was created to bring world-class music to Southern Maryland through affordable live performances and youth education programs. Artistic Director Eliza Garth emphasizes that the series invites audiences to experience top-tier musicians without leaving the region.
Tickets and more information are available at www.musicfrompoplarhill.org. Seating is open, and space is limited. The series is supported by the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and individual donors.
