ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary’s College of Maryland women’s lacrosse team delivered a commanding 29-0 shutout over Cedar Crest College on April 12, 2025, maintaining their undefeated record in the United East Conference (UEC). The Seahawks (6-7, 3-0 UEC) overwhelmed the Falcons (5-5, 1-2 UEC) with a dominant performance, marking their second shutout of the season and improving to 3-0 in conference play.
The game saw St. Mary’s surge ahead early, scoring 12 goals in the first quarter and leading 20-0 at halftime. The Seahawks’ relentless offense and stifling defense never let up, securing a 52-2 shot advantage and a 24-8 edge in draw controls. They also forced 13 of Cedar Crest’s 18 turnovers, finishing with a +11 turnover margin and a 25-7 lead in ground balls.

Five Seahawks recorded hat tricks, with sophomore attacker Sam Collins leading the way. Collins posted a career-high five points, including two goals and three assists. Junior attacker Katelin Scala and sophomore defender Claire Boudreau each secured five draw controls, while midfielders Colin Horton and sophomore attacker Grace Maurice collected three ground balls apiece. Horton also caused two turnovers. In goal, senior Isabel Gautreaux made two saves in the first half, and sophomore Allie Greeley picked up two ground balls in the second half.
For Cedar Crest, goalkeeper Irelyn Yoder played three quarters and made five saves against the Seahawks’ barrage.
The game also marked significant career milestones for two seniors. Hailey Betch entered needing small margins to reach multiple benchmarks and delivered with three goals and three assists for six points, plus four draw controls. Her performance pushed her past 300 career points, 250 draw controls, 200 goals, and 100 assists. Horton, needing four points for 200 in her career, achieved the milestone with a four-point effort.
Following the game, St. Mary’s honored its six seniors—attackers Ella Baynes and Betch, midfielders Horton and Madison Laine, defender Kayla Kopf, and goalie Gautreaux—for their leadership and contributions to the program. The ceremony highlighted their impact both on and off the field.
According to the United East Conference website, St. Mary’s has now won three straight UEC games, positioning them as a top contender in the league. Their ability to control possession and limit opponents’ opportunities has been a hallmark of their conference play.
The Seahawks’ depth was evident, with multiple players contributing to the scoreline and defensive efforts. Their 52 shots reflect an aggressive offensive strategy, while the defense’s turnover-forcing ability underscores their cohesive play, as noted in a recent NCAA women’s lacrosse analysis.
Cedar Crest struggled to find rhythm against St. Mary’s pressure, managing only two shots and facing constant defensive disruption. Despite the loss, Yoder’s five saves showed resilience in goal.
St. Mary’s next faces a non-conference matchup against Mary Washington (10-3) on April 16 in Fredericksburg, Va., at 7 p.m., followed by a UEC clash at Bryn Athyn (7-2, 2-0 UEC) on April 19 at noon.
