LA PLATA, Md., April 23, 2025 — A Maryland man known as “Air Brown” turned Easter Sunday into a memorable celebration after winning $50,000 on a MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off ticket from the Maryland Lottery. The La Plata resident, a longtime lottery player, plans to use his windfall to renovate his home and treat his wife to a vacation.

Air Brown’s winning moment came during a routine errand on Easter. While preparing to grill for a family gathering, he realized he was out of propane and headed to the Giant at 200 Rosewick Road in La Plata. With two old scratch-off tickets in his pocket—both non-winners—he decided to try his luck again, purchasing a MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off. Hours later, relaxing at home, he scratched the ticket and discovered the $50,000 prize. “I screamed ‘No way!’ at the top of my lungs,” he recalled. His wife, initially concerned, rushed over and confirmed the win using the Maryland Lottery app. “We’re still in shock,” Air Brown said, describing how the couple danced in joy with their children joining the celebration.

A casual lottery player who started with friends, Air Brown has made scratch-offs a weekend pastime. His previous biggest win was $500, making this Easter victory a life-changing surprise. When asked about his plans for the prize, he said home renovations, particularly to the kitchen, are a priority, along with a well-deserved vacation for his wife. “It’s time to celebrate and make some memories,” he added.

The MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off, launched on Jan. 13, 2025, is part of the Maryland Lottery’s MONOPOLY game family, which includes a Second-Chance Promotion. Players can enter non-winning MONOPOLY scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for chances to win monthly $5,000 prizes or rolling cash jackpots starting at $10,000, which grow until drawn. Drawings continue through July 2025, offering additional opportunities for players. The Maryland Lottery, established in 1973, contributes to state programs, including education, with over $18 billion in revenue since its inception.

Giant at 200 Rosewick Road, where Air Brown bought his ticket, is a frequent stop for local lottery players. The store has sold other winning tickets, including a $10,000 prize in 2024, according to lottery records. Air Brown’s win adds to the store’s lucky streak, boosting excitement among Charles County residents. “It’s thrilling to know big wins happen right here,” said a store employee, though no official statement was available.

Air Brown’s story highlights the unexpected joy lottery games can bring. His win, verified through the Maryland Lottery’s official process, underscores the game’s appeal and its role in creating life-changing moments. As he plans his home upgrades and vacation, Air Brown remains grateful for the holiday surprise. “This Easter was unforgettable,” he said.
