April Guffey, 46, of Charlotte Hall, was arrested on April 22, 2025, in Queen Anne’s County following a traffic stop on westbound Route 50 near VFW Avenue, charged with drug possession, intent to distribute, and multiple traffic violations, according to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 6:34 p.m., Deputy First Class (DFC) Brown, while conducting traffic enforcement, observed Guffey’s vehicle failing to maintain a single lane and driving recklessly. After initiating a traffic stop, DFC Brown’s observations led to a K-9 unit being called to the scene. The K-9 scan resulted in a positive alert, and Guffey admitted to having illegal controlled dangerous substances (CDS) in the vehicle.

A probable cause search revealed 25 wax fold bags containing a white powdery substance suspected to be fentanyl, along with additional CDS and CDS paraphernalia. Guffey was arrested and charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute, CDS possession (not cannabis), three counts of CDS possession of paraphernalia, reckless driving, negligent driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, and unsafe lane change. As with all legal proceedings, Guffey is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office has been actively addressing drug-related issues, with fentanyl posing a significant concern. The Maryland Department of Health reported over 2,000 opioid-related deaths statewide in 2024, many linked to fentanyl. The 25 wax fold bags suggest intent to distribute, a felony charge that could lead to up to seven years in prison if convicted.
