LEONARDTOWN, Md., May 12, 2025 — The St. Mary’s County Museum Division has launched its 2025 Dinner and a Cruise Series, featuring seven themed cruises on the St. Clement’s Island Water Taxi paired with seafood dinners at Morris Point Restaurant. The series, which began April 27, 2025, with a “Civil War & the Potomac River” cruise, offers guests a unique blend of history, scenic tours, and local cuisine. With only 20 seats per cruise, tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
The series kicked off during the Black Diamond Disaster commemoration weekend and continued May 4 with a “WWII on the Potomac” theme. Upcoming cruises, running from May to September, include “Blackistone Lighthouse” on May 25 and August 3, “St. Clement’s Island: Then & Now” on June 8, “WWII on the Potomac” on September 7, and “What Lies Beneath the Potomac” on September 21. Each cruise operates from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., offering a three-hour experience on the Potomac River.

“Since we started these cruises in 2019, they have always sold out quickly,” said Karen Stone, Manager of the St. Mary’s County Museum Division. “We are excited that our friends at Morris Point will be returning to provide a delicious local seafood meal. Keep in mind that seats are limited to 20 per cruise, so get your tickets fast before we sell out!”
Tickets cost $85 per person or $160 per couple, restricted to guests 21 and older. Most cruises include the boat ride, a guided water tour, and a seafood dinner at Morris Point Restaurant. Reservations can be made online https://bit.ly/DinnerCruise2025 or by emailing Janet Cooper at Janet.Cooper@stmaryscountymd.gov. Updates and event details are available on the museum’s Facebook page.
The renewed partnership with Morris Point Restaurant enhances the dining experience, spotlighting local seafood. The cruises explore historical themes tied to the Potomac River and St. Clement’s Island, such as the Blackistone Lighthouse and World War II maritime history, providing educational narratives alongside the scenic journey.
The St. Mary’s County Museum Division, which operates the St. Clement’s Island Museum and other historical sites, organizes the series to promote the region’s heritage and tourism. The limited seating ensures an intimate experience, but high demand requires prompt booking. The division encourages interested guests to secure tickets early to avoid missing out on the popular event.
The series reflects St. Mary’s County’s commitment to preserving its maritime and historical legacy while offering engaging community activities. The cruises provide a unique opportunity to explore the Potomac River’s cultural and natural significance, complemented by a meal showcasing Southern Maryland’s culinary traditions.
