BOWIE, Md. — The Binghamton Rumble Ponies secured their ninth consecutive victory on June 1, 2025, rallying for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Bowie Baysox 5-3 at Prince George’s Stadium. The Double-A Eastern League game, attended by 5,860 fans, saw the Rumble Ponies (33-17) maintain their lead in the Northeast Division, while the Baysox (23-27) fell to fifth in the Southwest Division. Key performances from Alex Ramírez, Matt O’Neill, and Nick Lorusso powered Binghamton’s comeback, with Douglas Orellana earning the win in relief.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Binghamton broke through. Matt O’Neill singled, and after Nick Morabito and Ryan Clifford were hit by pitches, Lorusso delivered a two-run single, scoring O’Neill and Morabito for a 2-0 lead. The Baysox responded in the seventh with a solo home run by Reed Trimble, narrowing the gap to 2-1. In the eighth, Bowie tied the game when Luis Valdez scored on a double by pinch-hitter Jeremiah Jackson, who later scored on a single by Douglas Hodo III, giving the Baysox a 3-2 lead.

The Rumble Ponies mounted their decisive rally in the ninth against reliever Yaqui Rivera. Lorusso led off with a single, and pinch-runner Omar De Los Santos replaced him. William Lugo singled, advancing De Los Santos to second. Ramírez then singled, scoring De Los Santos to tie the game at 3-3. After Kevin Parada was hit by a pitch, O’Neill’s single drove in Lugo and Ramírez, giving Binghamton a 5-3 lead. Orellana closed out the game, striking out three in the ninth to secure the victory, improving to 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Rivera took the loss, falling to 1-1 with a 5.19 ERA.

Ramírez led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI, and his 18th stolen base. “Alex Ramírez ties the game,” the Rumble Ponies posted on X, highlighting his clutch single in the ninth. O’Neill contributed two hits, including the go-ahead single, driving in two runs. “Matt O’Neill with a go-ahead knock,” the team posted, celebrating his decisive hit. Lorusso added two RBIs with his sixth-inning single. For the Baysox, Trimble’s home run and Jackson’s double provided their offense, but they left only two runners on base, limiting their chances.

Binghamton’s pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts. Starter Jordan Geber threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Relievers Cameron Foster, Carlos Guzman, and Alex Carrillo kept Bowie scoreless through the fifth. Ryan Lambert and Dylan Ross followed, with Ross allowing three runs in the eighth. Orellana’s 1.2 innings of one-hit relief sealed the win. Bowie’s Braxton Bragg pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, but Rivera’s ninth-inning struggles proved costly.

The Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, have now won 33 of their first 50 games, showcasing their dominance in the Northeast Division. Their nine-game winning streak, as noted in posts on X, underscores their momentum. The Baysox, affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles, struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, hitting 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position but managing only six hits. The game, played under partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 66 degrees, lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Binghamton’s 2025 season began on April 4, with their home opener scheduled for April 8 against the Hartford Yard Goats at Mirabito Stadium. The team’s recent success, including a 2023 playoff appearance, reflects their competitive edge in the Eastern League, where they have been a Mets affiliate since 1992. The Baysox, meanwhile, face challenges in the Southwest Division, with their record slipping to 10 games below .500.
