LUSBY, Md., June 5, 2025 — Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two suspects following a shooting that injured a 24-year-old woman on Field Road in Lusby. The incident, reported at 11:38 a.m., prompted a swift response from the Patrol Bureau and Criminal Investigations Bureau, leading to the apprehension of Steven Anthony Gilner Jr., 18, and a 16-year-old male, both from Lusby.

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Spruce Drive after a 911 call reported a shooting victim who had driven from Field Road. The victim, a Prince Frederick resident, was found in her vehicle with a gunshot wound to her lower back. Deputies provided aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, and she was transported to a regional trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed the victim had arranged to meet two males near Evergreen Drive and Field Road. A white SUV carrying two males arrived, and a Black male exited, approaching the victim’s car. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, after which the suspect re-entered the SUV’s passenger seat, and the vehicle fled at high speed.

Detectives located the suspect vehicle at a Pine Trail residence in Lusby. An investigatory traffic stop on Catalina Road led to Gilner’s arrest without incident. Later, at a residence on H.G. Trueman Road, the 16-year-old suspect fled on foot across a golf course but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. A search of the residence yielded evidence supporting the investigation.

The 16-year-old, charged as an adult, faces counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a firearm, first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony, reckless endangerment, three counts of possession of a firearm under 21, and removing a firearm’s serial number. Gilner was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery with a firearm, use of a firearm during a felony, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm under 21.

Sheriff Ricky Cox commended the response. “I want to personally commend the tireless work and swift action of our Patrol deputies, Special Operations Team, and CIB detectives in bringing a quick resolution to this violent crime,” Cox said. “Their dedication to justice and the safety of our community is evident in the results of this investigation. Let this be a clear message: violent crime will not be tolerated in Calvert County. We will continue to work diligently to hold offenders accountable and keep our neighborhoods safe.”

The investigation remains active, with detectives seeking additional information. The Sheriff’s Office urged the public to contact Det. W. McDowell at Wyatt.Mcdowell@calvertcountymd.gov or Det. M. Mudd at Michael.Mudd@calvertcountymd.gov with any details.
