PATUXENT RIVER, Md., June 18, 2025 — The United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) celebrated the graduation of Class 166 on June 13 near Naval Air Station Patuxent, Md., marking the completion of an intensive 11-month course. The ceremony recognized 19 naval aviators alongside students from the U.S. Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, civilians, and international partners, including the British Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, and Royal Canadian Air Force.

Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, a USNTPS alumnus and former NASA astronaut, delivered the keynote address. Kelly, who credited his time at USNTPS with shaping his career, including four spaceflights and commanding the Space Shuttle Endeavor, emphasized the school’s role in fostering future leaders in aviation and space exploration. “None of that would have been possible without my time here at USNTPS,” Kelly said.

The ceremony included the presentation of diplomas and awards for outstanding achievement. Lt. Nicholas Ramzi received the Empire Test Pilots’ School Award for exceptional flight test performance. Maj. Christopher Troke was honored with the Syd Sherby Leadership Award for demonstrating exemplary leadership and teamwork. William Josephson earned the Capt. Willie McCool Outstanding Student Award for overall excellence in academics, flight test, and leadership.

Troke, Class 166’s class leader, reflected on the challenges faced during their time at USNTPS, noting the personal and professional growth achieved through the program. “This journey has been as much about character as it has been about skill,” Troke said.

USNTPS, a component of Naval Test Wing Atlantic under Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), trains pilots and engineers for developmental test and evaluation of aircraft and aircraft systems. Located near one of the largest concentrations of aerospace testing facilities, USNTPS provides students with unparalleled opportunities for practical training. Graduates are equipped to push the boundaries of aviation safety and performance, contributing to the advancement of military aviation worldwide.

The graduation of Class 166 underscores USNTPS’s commitment to excellence and its global impact. With students from diverse backgrounds, the school continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of military aviation.
