ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Brittney Morris will step down as head women’s lacrosse coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland after four successful seasons, Athletics Director Crystal Gibson announced on June 25, 2025. Morris, alongside her husband, Kyle, who served as club sports coordinator and assistant coach, will join NCAA Division I Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, as part of the Big East Conference.
Since taking the helm as the program’s 14th head coach in December 2021, Morris, a native of Woodstock, Georgia, led the Seahawks to a 46-29 record, including an undefeated 19-0 in United East Conference play. Under her guidance, the team secured four consecutive United East regular-season and tournament championships. The Seahawks also made four straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament, advancing to the second round in 2022 and 2024.

Morris mentored eight Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Metro Region selections, three United East Offensive Players of the Year, three Defensive Players of the Year, and two Rookies of the Year. Thirty Seahawks earned All-United East honors during her tenure. In 2023, she was named United East Coach of the Year.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the past four seasons at St. Mary’s College and all the memories it has given me. I want to sincerely thank Athletics Director Crystal Gibson and the entire athletic department for their support and belief in me throughout my time here,” Morris said.
The Seahawks excelled academically under Morris, earning four IWLCA Academic Honor Squad distinctions and 27 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections. The team received three United East Team Academic Awards, with 40 players named to the United East Winter/Spring All-Academic Teams. Additionally, two athletes earned United East Senior Scholar-Athlete honors, two received United East Elite 20 Awards, and six were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team.
“Most of all, I want to thank the student-athlete, both past and present, who have made this journey so meaningful. I’ve been fortunate to coach an amazing group of young women, and I’m proud of the growth we’ve shared together. The future of Seahawk lacrosse is bright, and I know the program is going to continue to find immense success,” Morris added.
St. Mary’s College, located in St. Mary’s City, has built a strong women’s lacrosse program within the United East Conference. Morris’s leadership elevated the Seahawks’ competitive and academic standing, leaving a lasting legacy. The team’s consistent postseason appearances and conference dominance reflect the program’s strength.
Gibson and the athletic department have launched a national search for the next head coach to continue the program’s success. The process will prioritize candidates, maintaining the Seahawks’ competitive edge and academic excellence. The college’s athletics website will provide details about the search and application process.
Morris’s departure marks the end of a transformative era for St. Mary’s lacrosse. Her contributions, both on and off the field, have positioned the program for future achievements. As the Seahawks prepare for the 2026 season, the focus will be on finding a leader to build on this foundation.
