Washington, D.C. – The Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) will host its inaugural tryouts from August 22 to August 25, 2025, at Nationals Park and the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, marking the first professional women’s baseball tryouts since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943. Over 600 female athletes have registered to compete for a spot in the Women’s Pro Baseball League’s 2026 season.

From August 22 to August 24, the Women’s Pro Baseball League tryouts at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy will feature drills and athletic performance testing, with evaluators making initial cuts. On August 25, live gameplay at Nationals Park will determine the 150 players eligible for the October draft. “This is more than a tryout – it’s a moment of long-overdue recognition for the incredible talent that has gone unseen for far too long,” said WPBL Co-Founder Dr. Justine Siegal.

Women’s Pro Baseball League Launches with Vision

The Women’s Pro Baseball League aims to revive professional women’s baseball with six teams. Siegal, the first woman to coach in MLB, and Alex Hugo, a two-time USA Baseball Sportswoman of the Year (2019, 2024), announced the tryouts on CBS Mornings. “We’re building a future where girls and women who love baseball can dream as big as they want and now, finally, have a league to call their own,” Hugo said. The Washington Nationals’ support elevates the Women’s Pro Baseball League’s visibility.

Partnerships and Leadership

The Women’s Pro Baseball League partnered with Fremantle for a docuseries on the tryouts, alongside distribution and sponsorship support. Assia Grazioli-Venier, a women’s sports leader, serves as league chair, with Muse Sport as an advisory partner, strengthening the Women’s Pro Baseball League’s foundation.

Community and Venue Impact

The Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, a Nationals Philanthropies program, hosts initial tryouts, leveraging its 11-year history of youth development and community support, including nearly 1 million meals provided since 2007. Hosting the Women’s Pro Baseball League’s final tryout at Nationals Park highlights women’s sports, inspiring local communities.

Future of Women’s Baseball

The October draft will select 150 players for the Women’s Pro Baseball League’s six teams, setting the stage for a seven-week season, playoffs, and a championship in 2026. The tryouts mark a pivotal step toward a sustainable future for women’s professional baseball.
