The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team ended a 28-game losing streak against Johns Hopkins University with a 3-3 draw on September 10, 2025, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium in St. Mary’s City. The Seahawks (2-3-1) battled the Region V sixth-ranked Blue Jays (2-2-1) to a standstill in a thrilling non-conference match, marking their first non-loss in the 29th all-time meeting between the teams.

The Seahawks struck early, with junior midfielder Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) crossing from the left in the second minute for sophomore forward William Marbray (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) to score his first goal of 2025. In the seventh minute, sophomore forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) chipped a shot into the top right corner off a Lucas Evans assist, making it 2-0. Johns Hopkins answered in the 23rd minute when Brendan Listzwan set up Jackson Shapiro for a tap-in. Listzwan struck again in the 33rd minute, assisting Juan Bruzzone’s one-timer to tie it 2-2 at halftime.

Just 49 seconds into the second half, JHU took a 3-2 lead with Scotty Coleman finishing a give-and-go with Alex Gardner. St. Mary’s fought back, and senior captain Jack Nelson (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) equalized in the 71st minute, slotting in a Kindred pass. Despite a late red card to Haney, leaving the Seahawks a man down for the final six minutes, junior goalie Jordon Eckman (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield) made six saves to secure the draw.

Johns Hopkins held a 19-9 shot advantage, with 9-5 shots on goal and 14-4 in corners. St. Mary’s led 12-7 in fouls. Kindred paced the Seahawks with two assists, while Listzwan had two for JHU, and their keeper John Ghanem made two saves. The draw gives JHU a 28-0-1 all-time record against St. Mary’s.

The Seahawks’ resilience electrified the St. Mary’s City crowd, a boost for a team that went 6-10-2 in 2024. Playing in the United East Conference, St. Mary’s is building momentum with young stars like Marbray and veterans like Nelson. Coach Matt Schlegel’s squad showed defensive grit, with Eckman’s saves proving crucial against JHU’s attack.

St. Mary’s heads to Stevenson University (3-2-0) on September 13, 2025, for a 2 p.m. match in Owings Mills, Maryland. The Seahawks aim to carry this energy forward as they prep for conference play.
