LUSBY, Md. — Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to a drive-by shooting in the 1100 block of Golden West Way on September 16, 2025, at about 11:59 a.m., following an abandoned 911 call that escalated to reports of gunfire. The victims, who returned fire, provided details leading to the arrest of one suspect, while the alleged shooter remains at large. No injuries were reported in the exchange, which unfolded in a residential neighborhood known for its mix of single-family homes and proximity to Chesapeake Ranch Estates.
The initial call came as deputies were en route, with the caller reporting an unknown suspect in a vehicle firing shots past the residence. The caller, later identified as one of the victims, stated they fired back in response. Upon arrival, deputies contacted Nicholas Derick Dwayne Griffith, 25, of Lusby, and Timothy William White Jr., 28, of Lusby, who were outside changing a tire when the incident occurred. The pair described a dark-colored four-door sedan with tinted windows approaching, a firearm appearing from the front passenger-side window, and two rounds fired in their direction. Griffith returned fire with one round, after which the vehicle fled southbound on Golden West Way toward Cordova Drive. The victims noted a delay of five to seven minutes before their first 911 attempt, which disconnected before connecting again.

About seven minutes earlier, at 11:52 a.m., Calvert Emergency Communications received a separate call from a nearby resident reporting a suspicious vehicle abandoned in their yard. Surveillance footage captured two individuals exiting the car and fleeing on foot. The vehicle, a dark-colored Ford Focus bearing Virginia registration, was registered to 19-year-old Khiantae Rai-Vaugh Marquez Robinson of Lusby and matched the description given by Griffith and White. Investigators reviewed witness statements and additional surveillance video, determining the car was driven by 20-year-old Asia Ta’liyah Bell of Lusby, with Robinson believed to be the passenger who fired the shots. Bell was located and taken into custody at a nearby residence on Golden West Way. Robinson fled the scene and has not been apprehended. Criminal charges are pending against both.
The Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information on the incident or Robinson’s whereabouts to call (410) 535-2800 or email Detective W. Freeland at Will.Freeland@calvertcountymd.gov. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the CCSO app. As the manhunt continues, deputies remind locals to secure vehicles and report suspicious activity promptly.
