WALDORF — A Waldorf man claimed a $50,000 prize November 20 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore after scratching a winning $50 $5,000,000 Fortune instant ticket purchased at a local 7-Eleven.

The winner, who asked to remain anonymous, told Lottery officials he plans to invest the winnings in the trucking company he owns with his wife and treat the couple to a crab cake dinner on the drive home. He also said he intends to continue buying scratch-off tickets.

“I love playing,” he said. “I know once you get a ticket, anything can happen.”

The winner described himself as a longtime Lottery player with several previous big wins, including a $10,000 prize on the $5,000,000 Cash scratch-off game and two separate $5,000 wins years ago on Baltimore Ravens-themed tickets. His wife confirmed he has hit significant prizes “every now and again” over the past two decades, often around the holiday season.

The $50 ticket was bought at the 7-Eleven located at 11575 Berry Road in the St. Charles Towne Center area of Waldorf. Store employees received a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the high-tier winning ticket.

The Maryland Lottery encourages players to sign the back of tickets immediately, play responsibly, and contact the Player Services team at 410-230-8830 for prizes of $25,000 or more to schedule an appointment at the Baltimore headquarters. Winners have 182 days from the date of the claim deadline printed on the ticket to redeem prizes.

The 7-Eleven at 11575 Berry Road is one of more than 130 Lottery retailers in the Waldorf area and has sold multiple five-figure winning tickets in recent years, according to Lottery records.
