PINEY POINT — Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park will celebrate the summer solstice with extended hours on June 19, 2026.

The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. Visitors can tour exhibits in the Main Museum and join staff for tours of the historic 1836 lighthouse tower, Keeper’s Quarters and Potomac River Maritime Exhibit. The Museum Store will remain open, with proceeds supporting the Friends of St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Lighthouse Museums.

Regular admission rates apply. The final tour of the lighthouse tower, Keeper’s Quarters and Potomac River Maritime Exhibit begins at 7:15 p.m., with extended hours concluding at 8 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6–18, seniors and military personnel, and free for children ages 5 and under.

Piney Point Lighthouse, built in 1836, is the oldest lighthouse on the Potomac River. The site preserves maritime history through exhibits on the river’s role in regional transportation and commerce. The Keeper’s Quarters and additional displays provide context on the lives of lighthouse keepers and the area’s maritime heritage.

The event provides an opportunity for residents and visitors in St. Mary’s County to explore the historic site during evening hours. For more information, call Piney Point Lighthouse Museum at (301) 994-1471 or visit its Facebook page at Facebook.com/1836Light.
