St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s women’s soccer team dropped its third straight match Saturday, falling 2-0 on the road to Rowan University.
Rowan’s Sara Wiedeman broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute, converting to give the Profs an early lead they never relinquished. Wiedeman turned playmaker in the 73rd minute, setting up Bella Moore for an insurance goal that put the match out of reach.
Seahawks goalkeeper Breanna Brown kept the deficit from growing, finishing with seven saves in net. The sophomore from Arnold has anchored the St. Mary’s back line all season and enters the stretch run as one of the squad’s most consistent performers.
The loss is the Seahawks’ third in a row, following a 3-0 setback to Mary Washington on Sept. 16 and a 2-0 defeat at Lynchburg on Sept. 13. St. Mary’s opened the season with a run of results that included a 2-1 win over Hood College, a scoreless draw with McDaniel, and a 1-1 draw against Stevenson, before the current skid set in.
Team captain Keira O’Neail, a senior midfielder from Vienna, Virginia, and forward Gracie Tourangeau, a junior from Sykesville, were both on the field for St. Mary’s as the team looked to generate offense against a well-organized Rowan defense.
St. Mary’s, which posted a 13-6-3 record and a perfect United East Conference regular season a year ago, is working through a tougher non-conference slate early in 2026. Head coach Peter Krech’s squad will look to right the ship as conference play approaches.
