LA PLATA — The newest pup looking for a family at the Charles County Animal Care Center comes with blue eyes, a brown-and-white coat and a name borrowed from a 1990 rap hit: Ice Ice Baby.

The 2-month-old puppy loves toys, running and exploring, according to an adoption post from the shelter, which leaned into the Vanilla Ice theme with a string of music puns and called him a heartthrob with “baby blues.”

Behind the jokes is an honest pitch. Ice Ice Baby is still learning the basics, including housebreaking and walking on a leash, and the shelter warned adopters to expect some accidents and some wandering on the leash along the way. He will need a patient owner willing to put in the training time that comes with any young puppy.

The post drew more than 140 reactions and was shared dozens of times within a day. Commenters asked about his breed mix, which the shelter’s post did not list.

How to meet him

The Charles County Animal Care Center holds adoption hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Because puppies often go quickly, anyone interested should call the shelter at 301-932-1713 or email animalshelter@charlescountymd.gov to confirm he is still available before visiting.

Ice Ice Baby is one of several animals the shelter is promoting this month. Earlier this week the Chronicle featured Loki Boy, a toy-shredding Lab mix waiting in a foster home.
