Prince Frederick, MD – Calvert Hospice is pleased announce two new educational seminars for September. These seminars are designed to provide helpful information about a wide range of end-of-life topics that affect the community. We encourage participants to come and bring questions! The first seminar of the month is entitled Mind and Mood in Dementia and will be held on September 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. The second seminar is entitled Helping Hands: Calvert Hospice Volunteer Opportunities and will be held on September 25, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Calvert Hospice will provide refreshments. The seminars are free. The location for these educational seminars will be SpringHill Suites (75 Sherry Lane) in Prince Frederick.

Mind and Mood in Dementia

Presenter: Kim Burton, Director of Older Adult Programs for the Mental Health Association of Maryland

Ms. Burton will provide basic information about dementia and its common causes as well as how dementia impacts the mind, mood, and behavior. The changes that come with dementia can be very challenging for the person with the disease as well as those who care for and/or love the individual. Strategies to meet some of these challenges will be explored.

Helping Hands: Calvert Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

Do you have questions about hospice volunteering? Calvert Hospice volunteers help the organization in many ways, from sitting with patients to helping run the Shoppe for Hospice. Come learn about our vibrant program and learn what you can do to become part of it. We will talk about all the ways volunteers serve in the organization, training requirements, why hospice needs volunteers, and upcoming training classes. There will be an opportunity for Q & A, so bring your questions!
