News Release, Calvert County Public Schools

The Board of Education of Calvert County Public Schools approved the calendar for the school year 2020-2021 at the Board meeting on August 8, 2019. The calendar is available on the school system website.

The 2020-2021 calendar was originally presented for approval at the July 11 meeting, and, based on input from the community, the Board asked for amended calendar options that lengthened spring recess.

The Board subsequently chose to add one day to spring recess, while preserving the start date of September 1 and the end date of June 11. The three options that the Board considered are posted on the school system website.

Board President Dawn C. Balinski said, “The Board wanted to honor community requests for a longer spring break while keeping orientation for 6th and 9th-grade students on Monday, August 31, rather than moving it back to Friday. We believe that adding days at the end of the school year is not optimal for instruction, which is why we chose not to extend the school year and also why we embed days during the year to make up for inclement weather or emergency closures.”

The Board’s discussion of the 2020-2021 calendar is available on the school system website.
