Professor of Biology Jeff Byrd gave two invited presentations this summer. On June 22, he presented “Best Practices for Biosafety in Teaching Laboratories” at Microbe2019, the general meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held this year in San Francisco, California.

On August 1, he presented “ASM Biosafety Guidelines 2.0: Changes Envisioned after Seven Years of Use,” at the American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators in Fairfax, Virginia. Byrd is the safety editor for the ASM Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education and the chair of the ASM Safety Committee that is revising the biosafety guidelines for the society.
