The Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL) is holding a contest for elementary and secondary students. Entries for the I Love My School Library contest are due by Feb. 28 and can be submitted in a variety of formats.

For the contest, students can share what they love about their school library in the form of images, artifacts, videos, and other formats like a digital poster, mp4, PowerPoint presentation, and/or Flipgrid.

Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. Feb. 28. Entries must include the following criteria based on the student’s grade level:

Elementary entries

  • Name of the school library.
  • Name of the school librarian.
  • At least one reason why the student loves their school library.
  • The name of the student should NOT be included in the video.

Secondary entries

  • Name of the school library.
  • Name of the school librarian.
  • At least two reasons why the student loves their school library.
  • The name of the student should NOT be included in the video.

Three winners will be selected — one from the elementary school level, one from middle school, and one from the high school level. Members of the MASL School Library Contest Committee will narrow down the submissions to the Top 20 in each category. During March, students in Maryland can view the Top 20 entries and vote for which library they think is most deserving of the top prize in each category.
