
In a stunning display of ambition and talent, Kailah Callaham, a dedicated student from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, took to the field during the 2024 Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, captivating more than 120 million viewers with her performance. Majoring in political science and psychology, Callaham’s journey to the halftime show began with a spark of inspiration from the previous year’s performance, leading her to audition and ultimately share the stage with superstar Usher.
Callaham’s path to this monumental opportunity started with an audition video submitted in September, marking her as one of the 300 chosen for the field cast. The 18-year-old Severna Park, Maryland, native described the experience as an opening to a world of possibilities, noting the diversity and passion of the approximately 400 individuals she met during the process. Despite being the youngest participant, Callaham found a welcoming community among her peers and the production team.
The commitment to her goal required substantial support from her academic community at St. Mary’s College. Callaham worked closely with faculty and staff, including Joanne Goldwater, associate dean for retention and student success, to manage her coursework in preparation for the two-week stay in Las Vegas leading up to the Super Bowl. Goldwater highlighted the proactive approach taken by Callaham to ensure her academic responsibilities were met, reflecting the college’s support for its students’ extracurricular pursuits.

Callaham’s professors demonstrated flexibility and encouragement, recognizing the significance of the Super Bowl as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This collective support underscores the college’s commitment to helping students balance their academic and personal aspirations.
