LA PLATA, Md. — Two separate incidents at Charles County schools on October 4 resulted in injuries and ongoing investigations by local authorities. Both incidents occurred during school hours and involved student-on-student violence.

The first incident took place at La Plata High School around 1:30 p.m. during a class transition. According to reports, a student approached another at a locker and initiated a physical assault. School staff and a school resource officer intervened to separate the students, but before the situation was fully under control, another student became involved and also began attacking the same victim.

The staff and school resource officer quickly separated all students involved. The victim received medical attention from the school nurse and is reportedly recovering from the incident. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the victim’s injuries.

The two students who carried out the assault face potential charges. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the altercation. As part of this ongoing investigation, law enforcement is asking anyone with additional information to come forward and contact Cpl. Duley at 301-609-3282, extension 0494.

In a separate incident on the same day, two students were injured at Wade Elementary School. One student allegedly used a pencil to jab another student in the leg, causing a penetrating wound. The victim received immediate medical attention, though authorities did not specify the extent of the injury.

During the same confrontation, the same student allegedly struck another student in the head with a book. The second injured student was transported by EMS to a local hospital for evaluation and observation. This student was sent as a precautionary measure, and their condition has not been disclosed.

Due to the elementary school student’s young age, no charges will be filed in connection with the assault. However, the incident has been reported to the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services, as required by law.

The investigation into this incident is also ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact PFC Joffe at 301-609-3282, extension 0608.

Both incidents have raised concerns over student safety in local schools. The Charles County Board of Education has not yet released a statement regarding the incidents, and it remains unclear if any additional safety measures will be implemented at either school.

Law enforcement and school administrators are working closely to ensure that proper procedures are followed and that all students involved receive the appropriate consequences or support. Community members are encouraged to report any additional details they may have about these incidents to assist with the ongoing investigations.
