PORT TOBACCO, Md. — The Charles County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) is set to perform a vibrant fall concert featuring a variety of orchestral and chamber music pieces. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Port Tobacco Courthouse, located at 8430 Commerce St., Port Tobacco, MD. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Under the leadership of CCYO director Dr. Osman Kivrak, the orchestra will showcase an engaging program that includes works from celebrated composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Joseph Haydn, Johann Pachelbel, George Frideric Handel, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Highlights of the concert will include Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Four Violins,” Haydn’s “Piano Trio No. 1,” and orchestral renditions of Pachelbel’s and Handel’s pieces. A special feature of the evening will be Dr. Kivrak’s solo performance of Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Mandolin,” adding a unique touch to the lineup.

This concert is part of CCYO’s dedication to providing enriching musical experiences throughout the year. In addition to its two major annual concerts, the orchestra organizes several smaller performances, a two-week Chamber Music Festival with accompanying concerts, a Concerto Competition Concert, and masterclasses. CCYO also offers sectionals for the student musicians participating in its four ensembles.

Over the past year, CCYO has performed at a range of venues, including the Maryland Veterans Museum, the Village Green in Indian Head, Christ Church in La Plata, and the Alice Ferguson Foundation. Additionally, the orchestra was featured in a film produced by the Charles County Arts Alliance and spotlighted on WTOP radio, underscoring its growing regional presence and commitment to musical excellence.

The youth orchestra’s impact extends beyond its performances. Two of its string quartets were recognized as finalists in the Washington Performing Arts Society’s prestigious Misbin Chamber Music Competition, held in Washington, D.C., showcasing the talent and dedication of CCYO’s members.

Community members are invited to come out and enjoy this free evening of classical music in the historic setting of Port Tobacco. The concert promises to be an engaging experience for all attendees, highlighting the artistic accomplishments of Charles County’s young musicians.
