A St. Mary’s County jury has convicted Crosby Dawson, 41, of Leonardtown, Maryland, of two counts of second-degree rape and sexual abuse of a minor. The crimes involved a child victim, according to an announcement made today by State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling.
Dawson now faces a potential maximum sentence of 65 years in prison. In addition to his sentence, he will be required to register as a Tier III sexual offender, the most severe classification, for life.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah Proctor, Chief of the Special Victims Unit, and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Mike McGraw. State’s Attorney Sterling commended their work in holding Dawson accountable on behalf of the community.
Detective Kortnie Marsch of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Nichole Moneymaker from the Child Protective Services Division of St. Mary’s County Department of Social Services led the investigation. Their efforts were supported by members of the Child Advocacy Center, whose contributions were pivotal in the case’s resolution.
The trial was presided over by the Honorable Joseph M. Stanalonis.
Dawson remains in custody without bond as he awaits sentencing. A hearing date for sentencing has not yet been announced.
