JAMAICA, Va.—After 25 seasons under the ownership of Bill Sawyer, Virginia Motor Speedway has decided to suspend its dirt track racing operations for the 2025 season. The decision comes in response to financial challenges, including increased operational costs and inflationary pressures that have persisted since the pandemic.

“I wish there was an answer, but this decision wasn’t made easy. I am very sorry to have to make this decision,” said Sawyer.

Despite the suspension of dirt track activities, The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway will continue to operate, hosting two mud bog and Mega Truck events in 2025: Mud Mayhem on May 17 and the Run-A-Muck Mud Bog on October 4.

Located on U.S. Route 17 in Jamaica, Virginia, Virginia Motor Speedway has been a notable venue for dirt track racing, featuring divisions such as Victory Lap Late Model, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modifieds, and Limited Stock Car. The suspension affects both competitors and fans who have been part of the track’s community.

The Pit at Virginia Motor Speedway is situated on the grounds of the main speedway and is accessible via U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda and 25 miles south of Tappahannock. The facility is within a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland, and the Hampton Roads area.
