The Chesapeake Baysox secured a 6-1 victory over the Erie SeaWolves on August 17, 2025, at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland, splitting the six-game series and improving to 47-65 overall. Michael Forret delivered a standout Double-A debut, pitching six shutout innings with seven strikeouts, while Austin Overn powered the offense with two home runs and three RBI.
Forret, promoted from High-A Aberdeen, earned the win in his first start at this level, allowing just two hits and no walks while facing 20 batters. The 21-year-old right-hander, selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round of the 2023 draft, mixed a mid-90s fastball with effective off-speed pitches to keep Erie’s lineup off balance. Trace Bright followed with two scoreless innings, and Tyson Neighbors closed with a clean ninth, combining for a one-run allowance on seven hits total. Erie starter Austin Bergner took the loss, dropping to 6-7 after three innings where he surrendered two runs on two hits, five walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, the Baysox struck first in the bottom of the opening frame. Overn launched a solo home run to right-center off Bergner, his first at Double-A, followed by Aron Estrada’s solo shot to the same area, establishing a 2-0 lead. Overn, a third-round pick from USC in the 2024 draft, added another solo homer in the fifth against reliever Tanner Kohlhepp, extending the advantage to 3-0. The 22-year-old outfielder, known for his multi-sport background including football at USC, finished 3-for-5, marking a career-high three RBI at this level.
Erie responded in the sixth when Ben Malgeri doubled and scored on a fielding error by Estrada, narrowing the gap to 3-1. But the Baysox pulled away in the bottom half. Tavian Josenberger drew a walk and Carter Young was hit by a pitch from Yosber Sanchez, setting up Enrique Bradfield Jr.’s two-run double to center, scoring both for a 5-1 lead. Overn capped the scoring in the eighth with an RBI single off Richard Guasch, driving in Josenberger for the final 6-1 margin.
Bradfield went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Estrada contributed his fifth homer of the season. For Erie, Malgeri doubled for one of their six hits, but the SeaWolves left two on base and managed only 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Tigers affiliate, now 66-47, committed three errors that aided Chesapeake’s cause.
The series split came after Erie won three of the first five games, including a 9-5 victory on August 16 where Josue Briceño homered for the SeaWolves. Chesapeake’s offense, averaging 4.2 runs per game this season, exploded for 17 hits in a 12-3 win on August 15 but struggled in losses. The Baysox have focused on developing young talent amid a rebuilding year, with 15 players from their 2025 roster having debuted in the majors by mid-August.
