LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A 25-year-old man was arrested on June 9, 2025, after leading St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a vehicle pursuit from Mechanicsville into Charles County, Maryland. The incident occurred during an investigation into a commercial burglary in Lexington Park, with the suspect driving a car reported stolen from Washington, D.C. The chase ended when Charles County deputies deployed stop sticks, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, identified as Kazon King Cassion, of no fixed address, was spotted in a suspicious vehicle near Old Horse Landing Road and Mount Zion Church Road in Mechanicsville. The area was close to the site of a burglary that took place early on June 8, 2025, in Lexington Park. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Cassion refused to comply, initiating a pursuit that crossed county lines. Charles County Sheriff’s Office assisted by using stop sticks to disable the vehicle’s tires near Maryland Route 488, bringing the chase to a safe conclusion.
Upon apprehension, a check of Maryland databases confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Washington, D.C., area. Cassion faces 17 charges, including unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, reckless driving, and multiple traffic violations. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he is being held on a no-bond status.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate both the vehicle pursuit and the related commercial burglary in Lexington Park. Authorities have not released details about the burglary, including the specific business targeted or the extent of any losses. The proximity of the suspicious vehicle to the burglary investigation prompted deputies to approach Cassion’s car, though it remains unclear if he is directly connected to the June 8 incident.
Detective Andrew Burgess is leading the ongoing investigations and is seeking information from the public. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact him at 301-475-4200, ext. 8041, or via email at Andrew.Burgess@stmaryscountymd.gov. The sheriff’s office has emphasized that both cases remain active, and additional charges or arrests may follow as new evidence emerges.
The cooperative effort between St. Mary’s and Charles County sheriff’s offices highlights the role of inter-agency coordination in addressing cross-jurisdictional incidents. Stop sticks, a tool commonly used to safely end pursuits, were effective in this case, preventing potential harm to the public or law enforcement. The stolen vehicle, now recovered, will likely be processed as part of the investigation to determine its origins and any additional connections to criminal activity in the region.
