Calvert, St. Mary’s to be featured in 34th season of MPT’s “Outdoors Maryland”: New season of long-running original series debuts fresh look while continuing to captivate viewers with memorable stories and dazzling videography.

Calvert Sheriff’s Office raising money for “No Shave November”: This year our deputies will be putting their razors away (paying a $50 fine for the opportunity to grow a beard) to support a local family who was struck by misfortune, when their 12-year-old daughter, McKenna Cox was critically injured in a pedestrian accident September 7, 2022, in the Oakland Hall community.

CalvertHealth Foundation Annual CalvertHealth 5K raises more than $60,000 for the Sheldon E. Goldberg Center for Breast Care: More than 700 runners, walkers, cheering spectators and volunteers crowded the streets and sidewalks of Solomons in a show of pink for CalvertHealth’s 13th Annual Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run on Oct. 15. The record-setting crowd brought in nearly $61,000 to benefit the Sheldon E. Goldberg Center for Breast Care at CalvertHealth.

Charles County:

Charles Co., 16-year-old, charged with drug possession, semi-auto firearm possession: On October 20 at 7:54 p.m., officers responded to a grocery store in the 190 block of St. Patrick’s Drive about a complaint of loitering and possible drug activity–this was the second time officers responded; the suspects fled the first time.

CSM Board of Trustees unanimously selects new President: The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Yolanda Wilson as the sixth president following an extensive nationwide search. The board voted unanimously in support of Wilson’s appointment during a public meeting held on Nov. 3. Wilson will become the first African-American president to lead the college in its 64-year-history.  

Court records tie Charles County school board candidate to multiple arrests: Voters in Charles County are coming to know her as Julie Brown, the 57-year-old grandmother of two who says she’s running for the Board of Education in District 2 as “an advocate for parental rights.”

St. Mary’s County:

Guzman appointed new St. Mary’s County Communications Director:  The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County announce the appointment of Jenna Guzman as Communications Director.

Ochman Sends St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer to the United East Championship Game: Sophomore forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) propelled the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer team to the championship game of the 2022 United East Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament with his goal in the 101st minute Friday night (Nov. 4).

St. Mary’s College Headed Back to the Atlantic East Championship Game:  Top-seeded St. Mary’s College (13-3) picked up a 4-0 victory over fifth-seeded Immaculata University (7-10) in the semifinals of the 2022 Atlantic East Conference Field Hockey Championship Tournament.

State of Maryland/National:

Maryland voters to decide fate of cannabis legalization: With voting underway and polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m. Tuesday, voters will decide the fate of a legislatively referred constitutional amendment with “yes” or “no” votes on Question 4.

With 6 Months Remaining Until Federal Deadline, 88% of Marylanders REAL ID Ready: With six months until the federally mandated REAL ID compliance, 88% of Marylanders are fully prepared. But that means more than 500,000 other Marylanders cannot board an airplane or gain access to federal facilities after the federal deadline of May 3, 2023 – unless they act soon to obtain their REAL ID.

Early voting turnout for 2022 Maryland Gubernatorial General Elections: So far, early voter turnout is occurring at a slower rate than in 2018, though 2018 had an unusually high turnout for a midterm election. National turnout was 13.3% higher in 2018 than it was in 2014. Presidential elections, like the 2020 race, always have higher voter turnout.
